Other than getting to use my creativity, one of the most enjoyable parts of being a photographer is meeting new people. I recently had the opportunity to meet one of my new brides and her fiance in person. I had so much fun working with the adorable Shelby+Robert on a gorgeous fall afternoon! I absolutely love it when people are lighthearted and fun, are willing to try whatever I throw at them, and are so obviously in love. Sometimes there’s just no way around it…a kid has a bad day. Regardless of any tears or avoidance of my camera, it’s my job to capture every little person’s personality and every family’s love. Yes, children can be a challenge, but they keep my work fresh and fun and in many ways, I enjoy the challenge! I know that kids who don’t always want their photo taken stress parents out FAR more than me. In fact, it’s a bit refreshing from my perspective to know that everyone’s family is normal, and everyone’s kids have rough moments just like mine do! My time with the Roberts family may have been a bit stressful from time to time for mom and dad, but to me it was just another opportunity to capture absolute cuteness!

When working with infants and toddlers I’ve learned to just go with the flow! It has been a rewarding year of watching little miss Charley grow–she’s full of energy, has a mind of her own, and is completely adorable! I recently had the pleasure of working with the whole family again on a beautiful fall morning (thank goodness we got this session in before the snow arrived)!! It was great to celebrate a first birthday and such a gorgeous family!

There once was a young girl I knew who worked at the local Pizza Hut with my little sister, we called her Tink. She was quirky and energetic and full of life. That rambunctious teenager has turned into a gorgeous woman, wonderful mother, and vivaciously strong individual. I recently had the honor of being a part of her special day. Last weekend Ally+Rod walked down the aisle in a small church located at Wessel’s Living History Farm near York. The deep colors of peacock feathers adorned the girls and the decor. The day was a breathtaking mix of joy and emotion. The presence–both stinging and comforting–of a lost father could be felt at every moment. I’ve never cried at a wedding before Ally+Rod’s. I’ve never had tears streaming down my cheeks behind the camera until this one. There are so many beautiful places in Nebraska, especially in the fall. Recently I had the chance to travel to the Plattsmouth area to work with the McCaulla family – it was such a gorgeous shoot, on a beautiful fall day, with an awesome group! I couldn’t have asked for a better family to work with. From the oldest to the youngest, everybody was smiling and it made my job a breeze! Thanks again for allowing me to work with you all!!

Due to my growing belly and the upcoming birth of our fourth child, this summer was one of very limited senior sessions for me. That’s why when Allison’s mom called, I was thrilled that they wanted a fall session. Fall has to be my absolute favorite season for so many reasons. On the top of that list – gorgeous colors! I was also excited because I knew an October session would allow me more flexibility while shooting…literally. As a bonus, I’ve been dying to shoot with this awesome truck! I drive by it every day (twice a day) and I knew a perfect session would come along when I’d get to use it. Thanks to Allison for being such a naturally beautiful subject!

I’ve had the joy of working with these two adorable boys for the past three years. They are little balls of energy who make me laugh. Their laughter and orneriness make for a session that is never short of exciting (though it may end up giving their momma gray hair)! If it was up to Jake & Collin, all photos would be silly faces, tackling, goofiness and jumping into the air. I always know I can bribe them to sit still for a second if I promise them a crazy moment right after!

I love to hear how people came to find me and end up booking sessions. Often times it’s a friend of a friend. Sometimes people find me via social media like Facebook. And randomly, it’s through an internet search engine. I love to hear it when people have been a fan of my page for a long time and then I finally get to meet them! Meeting new people is one of the joys I find in doing this. Adicen + Nate are new friends of mine – and they are such a super-cute couple. I adore young couples who want to take photos – not because they’re getting married, not because they have a distinct reason, but because they want to capture this moment in their lives!
